2024 NAV-X GPS Challenge #4 - Donner Summit - 4 or 8 hour Map Trek
The 2024 Nav-X Challenge's 4th event brings us back to the Donner Summit area of Tahoe. We will be using a map with a scale of 1:15,000 and 5m contours. The map was made from a newer more accurate Lidar data set collected in 2018-19. The auto generated vegetation and cliffs are more accurate than the previous map version. The existing orienteering maps of Boreal Ridge and Donner Ski Ranch were georeferenced and imported into to the Lidar base map so half of the map will have orienteering level details such as boulders, knolls, depressions, etc. It should be a real treat for anyone who enjoys the high country at the best time of year, whether you are looking for a scenic hike, or a tough endurance race. The 4 and 8 hour courses will be GPS based, using the app "MapRun" for timing on your own schedule. The competitive window for this event is a 2-month window from August 1- September 30, 2024. Results during this time period will be included in the official results and accrue Nav-X Challenge series points but the course will still be available on MapRun until Jan 1, 2025. Upon registration, you will receive (1) registration confirmation, (2) within 24 hours, a separate email with links to map documents.
